Response/Rolle's Theorem

I appreciate the idea of everyone coming together as a group to encourage specific ideas/changes. Here is where I stand. I would love to take an entire period every week to ensure that everyone is on track. However, in doing so that would require that I move even faster through out the sections to make sure that everything is covered before setting aside a day for review. With a course like this it is necessary that I cover every topic that will be addressed on the AP exam. Here is my solution. We can either pick a day or two to meet after school or before school... or we can meet on Saturdays.

On a more academic/class related note...
Yesterday we looked at Rolle's Theorem from a different angle. Was this helpful? I found that a lot of you were attentive and seemed interested in the lesson. In building on that, what other instances can you see Rolle's Theorem applied? How can we create a situation like this to further our study of the Mean Value Theorem?

I do not like what we did in last period. I hardly can see the problems even with put the glasses on. I would like to do thoes problems if you give me in a paper, so that i do not have hard time read it.

I would not mind meeting early a couple days before school, not Saturday. As for the Rolle's Theorem while I wasn't there I believed you watched a video and I'll just use the unit circle video as my reference, that did help I now know the unit circle. The videos are corny and because of that you remember what they say, because you reference them later to classmates to mock them, so in the end you are logging the information into your long term memory.

I wouldn't care staying after school for a little or even coming in a little earlier in order to review, but definitely not Saturdays. I think Rolle's Theorem is still a little confusing, but I know how to do it just not the point of it I guess. As for instances that we would use this I don't know maybe in calculus... The Mean Value Theorem seems really similar to this excpet its a little more in depth because you use a formula similar to the slope formula. So I guess we could use this when finding rates of change?

I liked what we did the other day. It was easier to comprehend then just doing another word problem from the book and I understood it more. I agree with anthony, even though they are corny, they stick with you because of that. I also wouldn't care staying after school either because I could deffinitely use the extra help even if it only helps me a little. A little bit goes a long way...especially in this class.

I am fine with staying after school a few days a week to review. I think the Rolle's Theorem was easier to understand the way we learned it the other class because it was more interesting than learning from the book. The Mean Value Theorem is less difficult because it has a formula so I think just doing problems is enough to understand the concept.

I think it is a real good idea to start meeting before school. This would finally give us some time to review. I also thought the thing we did yesterday was very helpful because it showed us how Rolle's Theorem can be applied in the real world. As for the Mean Value Theorem, it seems a whole lot simpler than Rolle's theorem so I think we could learn it by just doing a few practice problems.

I wouldnt mind meeting a couple days before school or after school to review. I think that more the review we get the more we will understand it. I thought what we did in class the other day with the railroad and Rolle's Theorem was useful because it made it a little more interesting to pay attention to. I think that it was helpful how it was connected to real life. I think that the Mean Value Theorem is easier to do than Rolle's Theorem and I startd to get it alot more because of our review problems today in class.

I wouldn't mind coming in before or after school, but the major problem with after school is the activites people may or may not be involved in. Regardless, I still would like the help with some previous things we learned since Rolle's Theorum and the Mean Value Theorum seem quite easy. The activity we did yesterday was more interesting than the book and I agree with Anthony and Nicole about the videos. Doing things differntly in class helps people remember rather than just reading and outlining the bookproblems and whatnot. As far as the Mean Value Theorum goes- it is a lot eaier to understand than the other things we have done. It just a matter of understanding what/when to use it in a word problem.

Mr Campbell I also enjoyed your spiel today. It was good.

I wouldn't mind meeting after school for a little for review. I think that the video/word problem we did with Rolle's Theorem the other day was helpful because, like lauren said, it showed how it could be used in real life and how it can be applied outside the classroom. I think that more problems like this would help a lot.

Before or after school sounds good to me, but Saturday seems a bit unreasonable. I live in Pottstown.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the train example. I think it was easier to understand the gist of Rolle's Theorem after it was portrayed in real life. Sometimes I think that the hardest part of calculus is being able to relate the material to everyday life so that it registers in the mind a little better. These kinds of examples help because they relate all the messy f(b) and f(a) stuff (which is difficult to understand on its own) to real life.
It's hard for me to envision Rolle's Theorem in a completely different way. All I can think of is an example where something is moving forward and then starts moving backward (like a kite going forward until it is blown back by the wind). Maybe we could all fly kites in class one day to boost or understanding of the Mean Value Theorem.

I think coming into school early would be easier for the majority of the class, so we can review. Staying late isn't a great idea, since everyone has activities usually immediately following school. Sorry, Mr. Campbell, but I am really not willing to spare a Saturday for math.
The video the other day was alright. It didn't make the material easier to understand in my opinion, but it related the stuff to a normal situation. I am not exactly sure where the Rolle's Theorem can be applied; or the Mean Value Theorem, for that matter. As Anthony said, I thought that although the Unit Circle video was cheesy, I found it quite helpful, especially for the test.

Staying after school would be fine with me too because right when I start to understand it the class is over. The video was good because it gave another perspective than just from the textbook which I start to lose interest in. I still don't really know what Rolle's Theorem is used for or the point of it but the mean value theorem is definitely a lot easier.

I think before school would be alright so we can understand a little bit more. I think the train example was good because it helped me realize calculus can be used in real life and not just using random formulas for no reason. And I'm guessing it could be used for anything traveling forward that has to go backward like the train did.

Meeting before/after school sounds like a good idea and I think it would be very helpful. I didn't really understand Rolle's Theorem but the train story helped a bit. It was much easier to understand it that way than how it was explained in the book. But I'm still not exactly sure where it could be applied anywhere else but math problems. The same goes for the Mean Value Theorem. It's easier to understand than Rolle's Theorem but I'm not sure where it could be applied outside of math.

I wouldn't mind meeting before or after school because I think the extra review would really help. I liked what we did in class yesterday and found it more interesting than textbook word problems. I think it was effective because it also showed how Rolle's Theorem can be applied in the real world. I think the Mean Value Theorem is a lot easier than Rolle's Theorem and the practice problems we did today explained it well.

I think it's a good idea to meet after school to review. This way we can review together and understand it more. As for saturday's and before school it just wouldn't work for me. Especially before school because i'm usually late for somethin everyday so i would never make it to school early. The video helped me understand Rolle's Theorem a lot better and i liked how it was used in the real world.

rolle's theorem is more understandable for me thanks to taekyung. i feel alot more comfortable in class now that i semi-understand the things we are learning. today we did the sign f'(x) thing with the intervals and decreasing/increasing thing and i understand that pretty well. i like the way we are moving at a slow enough pace for even ME to understand the material. thanks for helping, and i'm fine with coming in early some days for review. ANYTHING will help!

I rather stay after school than meeing early in the morning or saterday. My function doesn't work properly in the morning. I have to sleep. Anyways, Rolle's theorem is......um... I don't really get it. but I am sure it is not that hard. I will work on it before AP exam.
