What things can we change moving forward?

As we move forward into the second quarter what are your concerns? Are there things that happen in class that you would like done differently? What approach do you think that we should take moving on?

Remember responses are to purely be concerned with academics in mind.

I believe that we should do reviews more often where you do problems on the board. I understand the information more easily this way. Making us do problems that we do not understand is simply a waste of a valuable class period. At this point I don't believe I fully understand the information. This is easily the hardest class I am taking this year and I am concerned about passing it.

To follow up on what Devin said, I think that reviewing past material at least once a week would go a long way. Everything in Calculus is connected. But sometimes it's hard to make that connection when the thing that we're supposed to be connecting our present material to hasn't been covered for a while. I also think we should start getting introduced to the AP test itself. Although I am pretty sure we're going to start that soon anyway, I just thought I'd mention it so I could meet the five sentence requirement.

I think if you would go over the many problems that we do, it would help many of us understand calculus better. I can understand some of the problems that we do but when it comes to the quizzes it seems harder and I'm sure we all know that calc is hard to begin with. As long as review the material and a variety of problems than some may understand it better and do well on tests. I also think that some extra credit should be allowed, not a whole lot but just enough. Maybe even little worksheets to help get more questions can help review concepts and gain some extra points towads our grades.

I think we should watch more movies in class. Mr. Moe let us do that and I think it would have a good influence on class. Also, we should be able to have food time because some of us have 7th lunch. It will help us focus. Nick is coming home for Thanksgiving, but no getting excited and coming over my house like over the summer.

Solve more questions during the class and less homework to do at home. Also, I think we need to take a test, or a quize about the formulas of trigonometry 'cuz most of us do not really know or remember those formulas.

My major concern is passing this class at this point. I would like things to be explained more, rather then just being handed the work without explanation. Reviewing would also be helpful, especially before tests and quizzes. I think group or partner work would be also be good, because then we can hear from a student's perspective how the work should be done. I believe this would make classwork more fun and easier to understand.

I am boring now, can I surf the ocean of information now? :)

and I meant... we need to study more about the formulas~!!!!! not the tests or quizes!!

I think we should go over things more, instead of just explaining them for a little then giving us difficult problems to do on our own. Sometimes I feel like you assume we understand everything because you understand it, and then just move on to the next thing even though half the class is still lost. Maybe that's my own fault for not telling you when I'm confused, but I really do think you should explain things more before giving us problems to do right away. I also think we should do more group problems because sometimes we can explain things to each other more easily since we are on the same level. Other than that, I don't have any other concerns. PS... We should definitely watch more movies like the unit circle one!!!

My main concerns are remembering what we learned in the 1st quarter and using it in the 2nd quarter as well as passing this class. I think I would do better in the 2nd quarter if we reviewed more before quizzes and tests. In the first quarter, I thought I knew what I was doing until it actually came time for the test. I couldn't remember if we had done problems like that before. So I think reviewing and more problems for homework(and then going over those problems) would help.

I think that the class should be slowed down so everyone can understand the topics. We should do more practice problems before moving on into the next section. I think that we should have more group activities because sometimes it is easier to learn from someone on the same learning level. When doing word problems, we should start with the easier problems then move on to the harder problems rather than go straight to the more difficult problems. Lastly, I would like to use fun activites as an educational way to learn calculus.

I think we should slow down the pace of the class because I have a very difficult time keeping up especially since the material is extremely hard! Also I think we should play games in order to review for tests, and then class would be more fun. And the winners should get candy or some kind of prize. Another thing we could add to class is group work because then its more interesting and fun. I think my ideas are very well thought out and should definitely be taken into consideration.

I think we should be doing more problems together in class. Usually in class you just do one example problem on the board, give us homework on it, and move onto the next lesson. Instead I think we should go over each lesson much more in class and review all the homework we do. I think the lessons on the website can be very helpful. It would be nice if we could do more of them in class together. I also feel we should be doing more word problems. They seem challenging when we have them on tests mostly because we have little practice with them.

I think in order for me to get a good grade in AP calculus have a lot more review days. We could use a lot more picture diagrams on the board and then discuss them in groups in order to understand them. I also think the class could benefit with a little less word problems and more regular problems.

Devin said...

I would like to focus more on reviewing, even if just the one person needs to. Maybe slow down a bit, but that's not as important as simply going over the material more than once to avoid future failures. Also, reviewing homework and classwork extensively. I also agree with taekyung, we should solve more problems in class all the way through. Also, seriously, more reviews when we need them. Easier quizzes and tests would also be nice, the harder stuff should be extra credit or a homework grade because not everyone is as good at math as you are.

Oh, I got an idea.
when I was in korean high school, we had three boards in the class and teacher picked any students and made them solve one question each on the board.
So he could save the time and find out which studnt need help at which step. I think we can try this way of teaching 'cuz we have two boards lol

I think my ap calc class is kind of fun class. But i think this class need more activities such as mathlets. And I hope u to give us much more questions to practice the tests.

Greg said...

I think Devin is right in saying that we need more review. Matt has some valuable ideas as well.

Taekyung said...

OMG!! I didn't mean to take more test.. I meant to study more about the formulas..

I love math!

i like the way that you have taught us, so keep the way it is. however, i would like you to show us how to do more problems in the class, since i have a hard time to understand how to do many word problems. i will understand easily by from your examples. so i do not have to ask other students for help in cal.

@ devin
I like the idea of easier tests/quizzes and doing harder homework for extra credit.

@ Jen
I agree with Jen because I feel that same when it comes to tests and quizzes. When we go through problems and somewhat understand them it helps, but when it comes time for the test or even quizzes there are problems on there that seem completely different than what we were doing. My main concern like others is passing this class.
-seems all the ideas are linked just like calc... hm.

@ Matt

@Mr. Campbell
I like your haircut, it makes you look very handsome. Shout out to my boy Shohom who is also the man.

Devin said...

@shohom

I agree with Shohom because he agrees with me. I think his reference to the AP exam itself is also a good idea, but I think we should just review hardcore, and not laugh at people who don't understand. It's funny, but after a while it gets annoying and frustrating, especially when people are working hard but just don't understand something. Even if it's turns out to be a ten minute review or something simple like that, it would benefit the class extremely, by helping each individual, not just those who have spatially designed brains. (I am not one of those guys.) Shohom's idea of a weekly review, I think, is a very good idea.

I would like to slow down little bit and focus more on problems. I think sometimes Mr.Campbell just assumes that we all know and understand what we are doing, but we are not. I would like to go over more problems on the board, so that we can understand about calculus completely. Also I would like to learn more about how to use a equation on a problem, not just memorizing it.

evan said...

@diro
i agree with everything he is saying except the word problem part. i dont think our class would do any better on word problems so they should be as limited as possible

@ Taekyung
I like your ideas of the board thing. That makes a lot of sense. That way, we can pinpoint our problems easier.

yeah !!!
need extra credits!!!!!!!!!^^

I think we should review before the test to help remember all the that is on the test. We should also do some fun activities in class like play games or something to make the work easier so we can understand it more thoroughly. I think the class is a little too fast and should maybe slow down so everyone is on the same page with everything. I don't really know what to expect but hopefully it gets easier. i love you mr. campbell.

@ Mr. Campbell

Yeah, I really need extra credit.
My mom's gonna kill me with this grade............

Extra credit !!!!!!!

@ bballgrl03 I agree that we should watch more movies because the unit circle movie was really good!

I am mostly concerned right now with making sure that I continue to pass the class as of right now. I think we should have more reviews and go into a little more detail when we do problems in class because sometimes just seeing the problem done doesn't help to understand how they did it. Also, I agree with taekyung with the trigonometric functions because I remember some of them but not all of them, and of course I never remember the right ones for the test/quizzes. So some help on those would be good.

Nicole G said...

oh yeahh, & we should watch that unit circle thing again because I missed it and since it's such a great help I think it would be good to see it.

Alyssa said...

I think the class should be slowed down a little to help everyone understand the topics better. We should do more practice problems in class before moving to the next section. I think it would also help if we went over our homework in class because I usually have no idea if what I did was right or not.

Lydia said...

i definately agree with everyone here in saying that we definately need a hardcore review before each test. obviously many people are not doing as well as they'd like, seeing that all these 'suggestions' are asking for review and a slower class pace. i agree w/ shohom in saying that maybe a weekly review could help? like every friday? that would be nice.

Anonymous said...

I think that we should move at a slower pace and maybe try to do more review questions together in class. I think that we should do some of the more complicated probelms in class so that we know how to do the basic ones as well as ones that require more steps. I think you should also explain where you get some of the formulas and not just write them down and expect us to know how they got there. I think it will make us understand what we are doing more and will help with our homework. I also think when we do have homework, we should go over them to see if we are following the steps the right way and getting the answers right. I also think we should have more than one day of review before a test so that we can go over evertyhting we need to know.

Anonymous said...

The only concern i have is about the AP exam. As shohom said, practice for that, i think, would help. Another good idea is a weekly review would help and i think it would benefit everyone. The movie idea was also a good idea. Especially since i was one of the few who didn't have the privaledge of watching the unit circle movie.

Anonymous said...

I definitely think the pace of the class should be slowed down a little. I understand most of what were doing in class but then I can never do it on my own in the homework. I think when we start new sections you should do easier problems first because you always do the most complicated ones which completely confuses me from the start.

Anthony said...

Everyone is asking for less homework, am I missing all this homework, because I thought I only didn't do one homework assignment and we only had like five. I realize the best thing to do would be to go home and do problems on your own, but at the same time you have to be realistic, we are not going to do that, I think every night should have some assignment, ranging from a couple short problems or one word problem. Especially the word problem because that is where everyone runs into trouble, maybe the assignment isn't even do the word problem, it would be look at it and see what you don't understand, and then the next class day everyone would bring up their problems and we go over the best ways to tackle word problems. I think the pace is fine, and if we moved any slower we would learn less, perhaps we could ease into sections with easier problems and end each section by doing hard word problems, since we can use that as a way to prepare for tests, quizzes, and the eventual AP exam.
